Chapters Transcript Touchless Plus This animation will provide helpful tips on using the Touchless Plus unisex pre-lubricated urinary catheter kit. Touchless Plus unisex prelubricated urinary catheter kits are available with either rubber or vinyl intermittent catheters. To use the Touchless Plus unisex pre-lubricated urinary catheter kit, begin by opening the kit and removing all the contents. A urethral catheter, vinyl or red rubber latex, 1100 cc collection bag, three pobodone iodine swabs, two ambidextrous gloves, and a waterproof under pad. Gloves are provided for the operator's protection and are recommended to maintain a septic technique during the procedure. To catheterize, remove the cap from the insertion tip while squeezing the tabs directly below it. Make sure to save the cap for closing the bag later. Slide the catheter halfway into the insertion tip. Males. Prepare the male urethral meatus and surrounding area by cleaning with the povidone iodine swabs provided in the kit. Holding the penis, advance the insertion tip into the urethra no further than the flange base. Females Prepare the female urethral meatus by holding the outer labia apart and prepping the urethral meatus and surrounding area with povidone iodine swabs provided in the kit. Spread the inner labia and advance the insertion tip into the urethra no further than the flange base. Release the inner labia. Place your non-dominant hand on the finger control guide to stabilize the catheter in the urethra. With your dominant hand, grasp the catheter through the bag approximately 1 inch below the finger control guide, and then push the catheter into the urethra. The catheter should be introduced by short, repetitive pushing motions. Repeat these motions until the catheter reaches the bladder and the urine starts to flow. Allow urine to flow freely, making sure that the catheter guide is elevated at least 4 inches above the lower portion of the bag. Allow flow until the bladder is emptied or until the bag is filled. Precaution. It is recommended that the collection bag is held. The catheter could possibly separate from the collection bag when urine increases the weight of the bag. Withdraw the catheter from the urethra. Remove the remaining portion of the catheter from the collection bag by pulling it through the insertion tip. Note, the catheter is designed to pass through the insertion tip. The filled collection bag may be closed by replacing the cap over the insertion tip. Make sure the cap snaps on securely. Specimen collection. To collect a specimen, obtain a sample cup and or tube and alcohol wipe. Remove the guide tip by pulling the tabs upward from the bag. Wipe port with alcohol. And pour the specimen through the port at the top of the bag into a cup or tube. Drainage bag. Remove the insertion tip by pulling the tabs upward from the bag. Drain urine through the port at the top of the bag. Created by
