Chapters Transcript Spirit instructional video Today we'll be demonstrating how to properly size and use your Spirit Mail external catheter. Spirit Mail external catheters come in boxes of 30 or boxes of 100. Each box will contain a copy of the instructions for use, as well as a Spirit Male external catheter sizer tool. Let's go over a step by step guide on how to use your Spirit Male external catheter. First, locate the sizing wheel provided in the box of your Spirit male external catheter. Verify your correct size prior to use. Trim pubic hair if necessary. Wash the penis with mild soap and warm water, dry thoroughly. Wear time may be reduced if the skin is not dry or if cream or oil is used. Once the area is clean and dry, you're ready to apply your Spirit male external catheter. Open the package at the perforation and remove the catheter from the plastic insert if present. Place the rolled end over the end of the penis, leaving a small space between the end of the penis and the cone of the catheter. Unroll the catheter over the penis. Gently squeeze the catheter to properly seal the adhesive to the skin. If possible, avoid leaving a rolled collar around the base of the penis. Please note that wear time may be reduced if adhesive is not properly sealed to the skin. Connect the catheter to a drainage system. Make sure to check that connections are secured before use. When it is time to remove the male external catheter, follow these steps. Ensure the drainage bag is empty. Disconnect the catheter from the drainage system, gently roll the catheter forward and off the penis. If necessary, apply a warm, wet compress such as a wet washcloth around the catheter to help loosen the adhesive. Disposal after removal, dispose of the used catheter by placing it into a waste container. Now that you know how to apply and remove your Spirit male external catheter, let's dive into the usage of the Spirit leg bag. Wash hands with soap and water before and after handling the sheath catheter and or leg bag. Now it's time for placement. Thread straps with the top and bottom of the leg bag as shown. Position the bag on the leg where it is most comfortable. Printing on the bag should be facing outwards. Secure the bag with leg straps. Ensure outlet valve is in the closed position. Remove cap from the inlet connector. Connect the urinary catheter to the inlet connector on the leg bag. Specifically for penile sheath users, a free standing connector has been included. The connector will allow you to customize the tubing length and position the bag where it is most comfortable. Prior to first use, use clean scissors to cut tubing to the length required. Slightly push and twist the new connector into the tubing to secure in place. Hold the bag over a toilet or container. To empty the bag, push the outlet valve outwards until urine starts to drain. Once the bag is emptied, close outlet valve. Replace every 7 days. Ensure the bag is empty. Pinch the urinary catheter to prevent urine from leaking. Disconnect the urinary catheter from the inlet connector with a twisting motion. Remove bag from the leg and dispose. See placement steps for attaching a new leg bag. If using an overnight link system with your spared leg bag, do not disconnect your leg bag from the catheter. Connect the bed bag to the flexible tube at the bottom of the leg bag outlet. Once the two bags are securely connected, open the outlet of the leg bag to allow overnight drainage of urine into the bed bag. For overnight cases, after Spirit male external catheter is securely applied, you're ready to attach the Spirit Nite bed drainage bag. visually inspect the product for any imperfections or surface deterioration prior to use. If package is opened or damaged or if any imperfection or surface deterioration is observed, do not use. Wash hands before and after handling the catheter and or night bed drainage bag. First, ensure the outlet valve is in the closed position. Next, remove the protective cap from the drainage tube catheter adapter and connect the drainage tube to the catheter. Place the bag on the floor stand or hanger. Next, hold the bag over a toilet or container. To empty the bag, push the outlet valve outwards until urine starts to drain. Once the bag is emptied, close the outlet valve. Before disconnecting the night bag, ensure the bag is emptied. Next, pinch the urinary catheter to prevent urine from leaking. Now you can disconnect the urinary catheter from the inlet connector with a twisting motion. Dispose the bag. See placement steps for attaching a new bed bag.
